Objective:
The present study provides information on factors related to
cervical cancer screening among a sample of Lumbee women. Methods:
Data for the study were obtained as part of a larger project to
increase participation of American Indian women in cervical screening.
In-person pre-intervention interviews were conducted with 378 women
selected to receive the educational program. Results: The
results of the analysis of psychosocial factors associated with
recent cervical screening suggested that the cumulative impact of
several predisposing factors is most predictive of screening. Conclusion:
Educational programs for cervical screening will be most effective
if they address a variety of psychosocial factors identified through
preliminary assessment of the target population.
